The One Thing You Were Born to Do: Free Book Giveaway

FEATURED-TheOneThing

A few short years ago, I sat in my office staring out my window. I was a children’s pastor and had just been called into my boss’s office to hear news of a couple who didn’t like the way I was doing things. It wasn’t the first time. I’d tried some different methods of doing kids church and most of them had fallen flat on their faces or I had managed to find a way to offend someone.

I was frustrated, and not for the first time.

Too Many Years, Too Many Careers

I had had these moments before. I’d start a career field I had some interest in, and I’d do my job until I would manage to do something terribly wrong, and then I’d find myself frustrated. I’d discover I wasn’t as interested in that thing as I’d thought I was. Or I’d find I wasn’t very good at it.

This moment in my children’s pastor office was one of those moments, but it was more than a frustration in not being good at something.

It was a frustration at my own questions of WHY I was even doing it in the first place.

Did I like kids? Absolutely. Still do! And I love my own more than anything!

But was I passionate about what I was doing?

Not at all.

I began to realize something very powerful that day. And I knew something had to change.

I had been going from career to career, looking for something I might be good at or capable at. And in all that time, I never once pursued my passion full-time!

Right now, in this moment. Some of you are exactly where I was a few short years ago. You’ve invested your life into jumping from path to path, hoping to find something you’re either interested in or something you half-way like that you might make a few bucks for.

Or worse, you’re living your life doing something completely unfulfilling and don’t even know what you’re passionate about!

You Have a Great Passion!

The truth is: you have a great passion in life! It’s that thing you could spend hours writing, talking, or thinking about. It’s that thing that you sometimes get lost in a daydream over.

And every moment you ignore it is a moment your life passes you further and further by.

    Hey Bryan,

This looks great! I’ve just subscribed (at least once!), but the download link doesn’t seem to be working for me.

Although I already know that my great passion in life is books (which is brilliant because it allows for many ‘sub’-passions!) I’ll never get tired of reading about others pursuing/discovering their passions, or of encouraging people to do the same.

Look forward to reading your ebook. & Congratulations on having created such a great resource!

Hi Brigid, I just realized the link wasn’t working. It is now and I just sent you an email. Thanks for letting me know! Hope you enjoy it. Even if you know your passion! :)

Trust me, there’s always room for sub-passions. :)

    Bryan…
The book sounds like something ‘right up my alley’. I think finding your passion is a never ending journey. What once may have been a passion can die down…..merely being something that you love to do.

I’m lucky that I have a passionate personality. BUT I have been through my dry periods. For those who are feeling that way now, all I can say is…don’t worry. You’ll find it. Fran

Since I’ve signed up to your email account already – I would imagine I will get your new ebook.

Yes passion – I preach it and live it everyday. I am living my passion by the way I live. Living the dream – wake up to the ocean everyday. I love what I do for my paying job – build playgrounds for children and love what I do for my past time – inspire people through my website – MakeGirlfriends.com

I am so happy to hear that you went inside and found that you didn’t love what you did and moved on. Isn’t it wonderful that we can do that – it did take someone else to complain but sometimes it takes us to be booted out since we don’t know when to give up.

    In living my passion,
    Nancy

Thanks Nancy. Sometimes we have to know really well what we DON’T want in order to wake us up to what we DO want. I think that’s sometimes a more important lesson.

And I will be sending a message to all subscribers later today on downloading the link.

      Thanks again!

Congrats Bryan! The ebook looks great! I bounced around a lot over the years, from career to career. I finally found my passion, but all that time wasn’t wasted. Each career taught me skills that I now use! Isn’t it all perfect?

Melody, I found myself in the same boat many times. It can be easy to let everyone else dictate what you should and shouldn’t be doing in your life. You’ve proven that you don’t have to live by their rules. I appreciate your comment!

:-) I’ve moved through several careers in the last twenty five years – but strangely – loved every single thing I did. From sales to marketing to training, I’ve had fun. I realized I am the sort who takes up everything with gusto. And when I could no longer go out to work due to domestic priorities, i found another passion to enjoy – writing. I really feel blessed. I think I still have miles to go before I sleep and that life has fabulous things in store for me.

I am eagerly looking forward to reading the book, Bryan. This is an inspiring post.

    With love, Vidya

Hi Vidya! Here’s the thing. Just because something isn’t a “grand fit” for you in life’s big scheme of things, it doesn’t mean we don’t have to go through a process of getting there or that we can’t learn something from our experiences. We may very well even enjoy the process! That can be a great asset to your journey!

Looking forward to hearing more awesome things about your future!

Congrats on the awesome new book!

Over the past 15 years I’ve found a number of passions. In my experience, getting out and having new experiences is the only real way to know when you’ve hit on something big. I’ve read about things I thought would interest me but, when I did them, it wasn’t right. And then I’ve done things that I thought would probably go nowhere but they took me to fabulous places. Lesson: Get out there and experience life (and don’t make it about the money)!

I’m following mine now with my blog and connecting with as many people as I can to support them in making the subtle changes that can make life amazing and happy. Yes, it really is possible.

      Hi Paige,

Thanks for sharing your story! I think we can very well find many passions in life. We can learn something major from them, too. And those lessons serve us very well sometimes. It’s not so much about DOING one thing your entire life. It’s more about knowing what you’re most passionate about and pursuing that as it comes. And that may be different things in different times of our lives.

      What do you think?

      Thanks for the comment!
